Roman Society
The Roman society shows enormous inequalities as to class and gender, between free people and slaves, citizens and non-citizens, and men and women.
The local oligarchy hokds positions in the city´s magistracy, and the owners of the medium and large-sized farms, salting business, mines, salt pans, quarries, and the ones running their trade. The fortune-owner elite flaunted their wealth through evergesias or donations, such as the one depicted in the funerary inscripcion of Voconia Avita.
