dark wood; ink-stained top; hinged top with leather insert in writing area, a recess on the right of desk top for pens, etc; guard rail around front and sides to hinged part; compartment beneath hinged top has six pigeon holes; added-on compartment in knee area, covered by a door hinged at top and has key hole; compartment on the front with vertically-sliding cover, key hole and finger grip; nos. ʺ38ʺ and ʺ2ʺ appear on desk top, above hinges, left and right, respectively.

Desk was at Birchard Public Library until 09/07/1966 when it was transferred to the Hayes Presidential Center with the permission of Ruth E. Lehman, daughter of John Lehmann.
