Compared to the same theme sculpted in stone of monumental dimensions almost four decades before for the Basilica of SS. Peter and Paul, in this relief of modest dimensions the compositional layout is completely different: between Paul and Jesus Christ, the sculptor leaves a great deal of empty space, or rather to the blinding light of the divine parousia. As in the previous try, Paul is slumped on the back of the horse, which this time prances together with the future apostle. Everything is movement, the only static element is the outline of the city of Jerusalem, just left by the future apostle, who demarcates the horizon.
