One of the oldest existing kabuki costumes. Bando Mitsue II was a kabuki actress of a troupe only containing female members which had access to the inner palace and residences of feudal lords that were closed to men. Mitsue was a disciple of kabuki actor Bando Mitsugoro III (1775~1831), and preserved costumes taken over from her mentor. Later on, those costumes were donated to the Theatre Museum through Mitsugoro VII. This costume among those ones is considered to be used for the role of Shirafuji Genta in Kachi-zumo ukina no hanabure. The Bando family’s pattern Hanatsukami were sewn on the Mouka cotton cloth instead of wisteria.
