The early morning of May 10th, 1943 witnessed one of the most ominous episodes in the history of Peruvian culture: the National Library was on fire.
In the same place of the Library, other important institutions such as the Historical Institute and the Geographical Society functioned, which also ended up unfortunately damaged. However, firefighters managed to save the National Archives from the fire, as well as the management office of the National Library. They also isolated the other buildings adjacent to the library within the block from the flames.
