More than once, during his whole artistic career , the artist portrayed Mary of Magdala, Jesus Christ’s follower who attended his crucifixion and who has been the first testimony of his resurrection. In this artwork the space enveloped by the slouching limbs has an extremely important definition inside the balance of the composition and it seems that the posture of the woman has been created exactly in function of that void. The Maddalena’s body opens itself like a bow around a central space which is enveloped in the bended limbs that are open like embracing the empty space in front of her.
