The Route of the Museums of Caesaraugusta

The Route of the Museums of Caesaraugusta
Zaragoza, Spain

Terra Sigillata Itálica glass bottom, characterized by its truncated conical shape with a curved interior area. It is classified as Italic terra sigillata. The paste with which the piece is made is pinkish in color, with mica and some black dots; Its coating is very shiny, dark brownish red in color (2.5 YR 4/6 according to Munsell Soil Chart), adherent and dense, quite covering and of optimal quality despite presenting certain erosions on edges and edges.

Inside the plate, in a central position, it has an imprint of the FELIX /FECIT brand. It is written in small, thick capital letters and arranged in two lines separated by double lines. The letters are shown inside a rectangular stamp tending to square, with a 1 cm x 0.8 cm frame.

There are several workshops that in their seals refer to the cognomen Felix accompanied by the mention "fecit", so a precise identification of the potter is not possible. There is no doubt, however, that he is an Italic potter.
