Davis children with Joseph Davis and Robert Brown

Glass plate negative by photographer William Notman in Montreal, Canada in 1865. The children are Margaret Howell, William Howell, and Varina Anne Davis. The seated man is Joseph Emory Davis (brother of Jefferson Davis). The standing man is formerly enslaved man Robert Brown who accompanied the Davis family (sans Jefferson) to Canada immediately after the Civil War.
