The painting is built with an energetic and vigorous workmanship; the composition on a large landscape background shows in the foreground the figure of Abel, built with a precise anatomy; in the upper part a diagonal joins Cain, the angel and the Eternal Father who appears among the clouds. The fast and wide approach and the decisive game of diagonals suggest a dating to a mature period, around 1715. On the dull tone of the entire composition, the red of the angel's cloth stands out vividly, while the color is still full of shades and chiaroscuro, and the landscape is dense with greens against a sky full of blue.
