Rijksmuseum van Oudheden
Leiden, Netherlands

This high vase on a low foot was found in 1914 on Dutch soil, in a grave near Cuijk, the Roman name for which was Ceuclum. It is extremely rare because of its stamped appliqué decorations. The glass-blower added small lumps of glass to the side of the vase while it was hot and molten; they thus became attached to the surface of the vase and were immediately stamped. The medallions display women’s heads.
