Detailed view of balconies on Kapur Mahal and Keval Mahal along Marine Drive. These buildings in differing states of upkeep, were built by wealthy Gujarati businessmen and brothers Kapurchand and Kevalchand Mehta and designed by P.C. Dastur. Buildings' elements draw inspiration from their surrounding context. Features like the ocean, waves, and nautical imagery have been incorporated into the building design in the form of porthole shaped concrete grills, turret-like viewing galleries and projecting balconies often symmetrical positioned on the facade.
Both the buildings are a part of 'The Victorian Gothic and Art Deco Ensembles of Mumbai', a UNESCO World Heritage Site that was inscribed to the list on June 30, 2018.
