The devil’s work balls, resting on a flowering prunus tree, consist of 23 to 25 intertwined and moveable hollow balls. To be read on the outmost ball is Mao Zedong’s (1893-1976) “Ode to the Plum Blossom“ (Yong mei) which he wrote in 1961, referring to the famous poem by Lu Yous (1125-1210).
