Devotional majolica panel

1800

Palazzo Asmundo

Palazzo Asmundo
Palermo, Italy

Panel formed by four quadrangular majolica tiles arranged in a rhombus depicting the image of the Congregation of the SS. Sacrament, established since 1750 with the purpose of accompanying Viaticum to the sick and dying. The emblem appears, with two seraphs at the sides with urns intent on spreading incense; below the chalice the date 1791. The representation in the territory of Burgio, arises from the cult of purgative souls, which was born with the homonymous congregation which was located at the Church of S. Maria della Misericordia. This representation, due to its clear graphic and chromatic connotations, is certainly to be attributed to Burgio.
