Donation from Hernando Columbus, Cordoban son of Christopher Columbus, to his cousin Pedro de Harana of land assets inherited from his mother, Beatriz Enríquez de Harana in Santa María de Trassierra. María del Mar Ibáñez explains how José de la Torre y del Cerro “used historical documents to reconstruct the portrait of Beatriz, born in the small village of Trassierra, as well as her family and the couple’s friends, and how the Cordoban maiden and visionary adventurer ended up meeting. The setting is 1485 when the Genoa-born Columbus arrived in Cordoba where the Royal Court was then established, and the scene is set in the apothecary of his fellow countryman, Leonardo de Esbarroya, on the corner between Alfonso XIII and María Cristina streets, a meeting place for intellectuals of a curious mind and where he was likely to have met the parents of Beatriz. The Cordoban friends who accompanied Christopher Columbus on his adventure in the Americas, the relationship between Hernando Columbus and his mother, and other anecdotes are studied by the author.”
