Door handle symbols

How can blind people find the right public restroom? Kerstin Olsson has the found the solution with her door handle symbols which show blind people if they are entering the ladies’ room, the gents’ or if the restroom is accessible for persons with disabilities.

Kerstin got the idea for the door handle symbols when she was taking parting in an inventors’ workshop and asked to come up with ideas for aids for people with visual impairments.

Kerstin has received an Inventors’ Prize and her door handle symbols were on exhibition at the fair of Tekniska Mässan in 2001. The door symbols became produced by Intratech in the town of Husqvarna and sold in Sweden. They are design protected.
