As is frequently the case in Porto, these buildings form interruptions on the built front, punctuated by façades with a certain apparatus, which emphasize symmetry and establishing a dialogue with the walled patios. These buildings either resulted from the agglomeration of the usual narrow lots, in allotment processes, or reflect the conservation of a partitioning of irregular spaces urbanized henceforth. Their size and potential led, in many cases, to their subsequently occupation by industries or services.
