Drummer and Dancers Leading the Procession of the Virgin of La Rábida

The Virgin of La Rábida is the patron saint of Sanlúcar de Guadiana. Her pilgrimage is celebrated over 4 days, the weekend after Easter Sunday. During the procession, an image of the Virgin is paraded through the town, carried on the shoulders of locals and dancers as they move to the beat of the drumming. The dancers perform the Dance of the Virgin of La Rábida, or the Dance of the Flowers, in the Nuestra Señora de las Flores church. It involves an odd number of male dancers (9 or 11), dressed in traditional costumes and holding ornamental arches decorated with colored flowers, while the rhythm is set with cascabels, sticks, and castanets.
