A Dutch Delft Porceleyne Bijl or Porcelain Axe factory plate decorated with an Orange tree and the slogan Viva Oranje. During the 1780s there were pro-royalty and pro-democratic factions in the Netherlands. In 1787, the Patriots which were a pro-democratic revolutionary group, attempted to assassinate Prince Willem V (1748-1806) in a coup d'etat. The plate is a pro-royalty commemoration of the failure of this attempt.
