A Dutch Delft prayer plate. During the 16th Century (circa 1700) Calvinism, a branch of the Christian faith, was deeply entrenched in Dutch culture, and depicting religious imagery was frowned upon. Therefore, prayer plates was used to portray religion and scripture. The religious phrase on this plate numbered 12 translate into “Beneficent Supreme God, You feed us all, yours is the praise and honor, our hearts are grateful Amen.
