Dynastes neptunus is named after Neptune, the god of freshwater and the sea in Roman mythology. Native to Ecuador, Colombia and Venezuela, its body size is second only to Dynastes Hercules, usually 12-14 cm and the maximum 15.5 cm. Dynastes neptunus has four horns on the head and thorax, and the head horns are almost as long as the thorax horns. There are also two short horns on the side of the thorax.
