Following the studies in the Academy of Fine Arts in Düsseldorf and his stay in Munich, where he joined an artists’ association of the Munich Secession, the artist settled in Wrocław in 1896. The painting shows a local landscape with the wetland of the River Odra. It was painted according to the decorative principles of the Jugendstil (German Secession), with all the elements of this asymmetric composition painted with a soft sinuous line and flat patches of subtle colours.
