A sculpture titled Elephant Stack by the South African artist Ian Redelinghuys. The work was donated by the artist in 2001, after his exhibition on campus in 2000 in the Old Arts Gallery. Elephant Stack is a steel work with two elephants on four wheels balancing what seems to be an industrial steel construction in the air where another elephant is at the highest point. Short biography: Ian Redelinghuys was born in 1949. He obtained both his Fine Art and Teachers Diploma at the Technikon Pretoria (now TUT) and MA (Art and Design) at the University of Wolverhampton in the UK. He teached in the Department of Applied of Fine and Applied Arts at the Tshwane University of Technology, where he was also Head of Department between 1992 and 2008. He taught part-time at the University of Pretoria for a number of years. Redelinghuys has exhibited extensively, both locally and abroad, including the Pretoria Art Museum, Johannesburg Art Gallery, Durban Art Museum, Iziko South African National Gallery, Washington, New York and many more. His work is represented in a number of private and institutional collections.
