Sport Clube Beira-Mar was founded in Aveiro on January 1, 1922. The idea of creating a football association had emerged as early as 1918, but the definitive impulse was given in 1921 by the action of some emigrants arriving from the United States of America. América who came together to found Sport Clube Beira-Mar. On December 25, 1921, the first challenge played by SC Beira-Mar took place on the Rossio field, against Clube Mário Duarte, followed by the club's official founding ceremony on January 1, 1922. In its statutes, Beira -Mar is defined as a sports, cultural and recreational association, with the aim of promoting the development of physical education and also providing means of culture and entertainment. From football, it expanded its activities to other sports, and today it is an eclectic club. In the 1928/29 season, Beira-Mar achieved its first regional title in the I Division. The first national title came in the 1958/59 season, with the title of champion of the III Division. In the 1960/61, 1964/65 and 1970/71 seasons, the club won the national championship of the II Division, ascending to the I Division. In 1991, Beira-Mar reached the final of the Portuguese Cup, losing to Futebol Clube do Porto. The club's main achievement was in the 1998/1999 season, when they won the Portuguese Cup against Campomaiorense.
