Emblem used since approx. 1953 until the creation of the current emblem in 2010. The emblem before this did not have the three rings with the letters F P A.
The Portuguese Athletics Federation (FPA) was founded on November 5, 1921 under the registration of Portuguese Sports Federation. The first steps towards the founding of the FPA were taken on September 24, with the creation of a Steering Committee of the Sports Athletic Federation, with Salazar Carreira, José Oliveira e Sousa, Carlos Bazílio de Oliveira and Armando Sá. The official creation took place two months later.
