Emblem of the Portuguese Fencing Federation (FPE)

The Portuguese Fencing Federation was created in 1922, in the city of Lisbon. However, fencing as an organized sport was already practiced in Portugal at the end of the 19th century, when weapons master António Martins founded the National Fencing Center, a practically official institution supervised by the Ministries of War and the Navy.
