Emblem of the Portuguese Fencing Federation (FPE)

The Portuguese Fencing Federation was created in 1922, in the city of Lisbon. However, fencing as organized sport was already practiced in Portugal in the late nineteenth century, when the Master of Arms António Martins founded the National Fencing Center, a practically official institution protected by the Ministries of War and the Navy.
