Fan with incised, gilt and painted ivory sticks, the guards applied with mother of pearl.

The skin leaf is painted on the recto with an animated scene of French aristocracy picnicking in front of an encampment.
It has been suggested that the painting on the leaf represents an entertainment given by the Duc de Vendome who was friendly with the younger generation of the family of Louis XIV.
