These tiny pictures narrating three stories from the life of Esther probably decorated pieces of furniture: the Punishment of the Eunuchs, Esther Brought before Ahasuerus, and Ahasuerus Ordering the Triumph of Mordecai. Executed with the brilliance and deftness of an oil sketch, as can be seen in the impressionistic freedom of the landscape and architecture, they also dazzle with contrasts of complementary colors.
