On obverse, Costa Rica and Nicaragua, and French text urging a canal by way of Lake Nicaragua, and a colorful group of figures: "Les Quatre parties du Monde regardant attentivement Mercure, Dieu du Commence". Guards and sticks: ivory with much engraved, silvered detail.
