This fan of spangled silk and net is very delicate. Its owner would have had to handle it gently to avoid dislodging any spangles. Fans with embroidery and spangles were fashionable from the late 18th century and into the first half of the 19th century. The leaf-like motifs and their regular arrangement are typical of the British Regency style of the early 19th century.
