The two sides of the Sacrament’s Door are divided in eight squares, four on both sides . The seven scenes related to the sacred acts are introduced by a symbolic representation of an angel that gives them to humanity, which is pictured in its three life stages. The narration develops from the top of the panel on the left to the top of the opposite panel following this order: The Sacraments’ Angel, The Baptism, The Chrismation, The Penance (meaning the sacrament of Confession), The Eucharist, The Matrimony, The Consecration, The Extreme Unction.
The Sacrament’s Door has been inaugurated by Pope Paul VI on September 12nd 1965 and a smaller reproduction of it is preserved in the Crocetti Museum.
