  • description of the project: As part of the opening programme of the Convento São Francisco, the City Council of Coimbra, promoted the artistic project FIO | memórias como matéria-prima. Contemporary art movements, in this case, Urban Art, as well as the links between the artistic community and those interested or aspiring to work in the arts and the general community, are one of the directions of work that it is hoped to be encourage at the Convento São Francisco, in the development of specific projects, or in the construction of lines to connect Art, Culture, Science and Community. The memories of the working days at the Wool Factory of Santa Clara are the argument for a creation of strong community sense. Founded in 1888 by Jayme Planas Coronellas, Pedro Peig Doria and Buenaventura Doria Borrell, the actory worked on the premises of the Convent for about a century. The life of this textile unit, which has in the memory of the city a special place, was due to several generations of entrepreneurs and workers. Throughout the entire creative process, appealing to community participation, the FIO project seeks to activate the patrimony of the Factory and honor the last inhabitants of the former Convent. It is intended to evoke the universe of knowledge associated with work, everyday sociabilities and life stories of its protagonists. MISTAKER MAKER was invited to develop an Urban Art project capable of re-creating and inscribing these memories in the public space. The final result of FIO is the painting of the faces of people connected to the Factory, which, when they are displayed in the streets of the city and neighboring towns, allow us to discover a little more about the history of the Convent of San Francisco. But equally, they are inscribed again inside this building. We thank all who have so generously shared their memories with us and offered us the walls of their houses and storefronts. Their contribution was decisive for the realization of this project. 5 phases of FIO: - ecognition - workshop stencil open to the community - interior mural - outdoor mural - documentary
