Fire is used for many things: Cooking, heating, drying, ripening, cauterizing, burning fields, forging metals, making pots. It was also used in forms of divinations, traditional cult, and had medical and veterinary uses. To light fire, people rubbed sticks called Urushingo together. The photo shows sticks used to start fire and cooking pots on cooking stones.
