Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares de Sevilla

Museo de Artes y Costumbres Populares de Sevilla
Sevilla, Spain

Bread, oil and wine have been the basic foundations of the food and economy in Mediterranean cultures since ancient times and many inventions have been created throughout history to transform raw material (wheat, olives and grapes) in food products.

On display here is a winch used in bread-making, an animal-powered device used to refine the flour. Other items of bread-making are also shown, such as the kneading trough, the dough scales, the peel for putting loaves in the oven and the stamps to mark them, often used in earlier times in communal ovens, to indicate the grams for each size.
