Café Isyoni is a surprise find, just like Hong Zhao-Pei’s masterpieces, not flamboyant, but full of confidence, uniqueness and no doubts. “Folded Image 42” is one of Hong Zhao-Pei’s repeated attempts in discovering her painting ideas. Painting an animated frog is vastly different from seeing a finished green frog drawing; this masterpiece is an honest depiction of her artistic notions, pushing forward her light, agile artistic creation illusions. In her “Folded Image” series, acrylic colors no longer attach themselves on canvases to picture real objects, but she crossed over to using the soft textures of colors to set them before they dry, using repeated layers she made the acrylics become actualities on the canvases. Just like Hong Zhao-Pei’s declaration of her own masterpiece, “Realistic lights, realistic shadows, and realistic objects”. This is an order of arrangement, rule, and realistic new sphere.”
