The water of the "Fonte Nuova" gave wealth to our territory and to the numerous laborers who, with this "precious gold", have built the history of our territory creating gardens and orchards. Currently the source, the memory and history of the monument has been disfigured by thugs with indecorous images. The historic "Fonte Nuova" was built by the Municipality of Vasto in 1849 to increase the availability of drinking water in the town. Immediately after the landslide of 1816, the presence of rich aquifers in the subsoil gave a significant boost to agriculture and the "Fonte Nuova" gave fresh water to the numerous fishermen who transported the fish from the coast to the above market in Piazza del Popolo. Many peasants from the "peschiera" drew water to irrigate the gardens and the washerwomen washed the laundry.
