Around 1943, before the fatal fire of the National Library occurred, this institution had rooms such as the reading room, Ancient Europe room, Modern Europe room, America and Peru room, room for publications of national newspapers, room of non-collectible publications, and the foreign magazine room. This space also had a management office, where valuable books were also kept.
Although we do not know exactly which of these rooms was the one in the present photograph, we can observe the wooden shelves to store books and documents, as well as the second-height loft, bordered by railings. On the ceiling, natural light enter through what seems a skylight.
