French Vivier High Heels

This pair of shoes designed by Roger Vivier for House of Christian Dior in 1961 is streamlined and elegant in its simplicity. Its only ornament, a floating rosette, hovers above the instep by use of a thin, clear plastic tab. One of the most celebrated shoe designers of the twentieth century, Vivier rose to fame in the 1950s when he began to design footwear for Dior in 1953. Often inventive in form and dripping with ornament, Vivier’s footwear became the epitome of mid-century glamour and earned him a glittering clientele, an enduring place in fashion history and the title “The Fabergé of Shoes.”
