Frightened Horses

This painting can be treated almost as a model example of the principles of the Modernism in the early 20th century. Its gloomy, dark and monochromatic tonality, and the pronounced deformation of animal figures, create a climate of doom and anxiety so eagerly evoked by the decadence-inclined artists of that epoque.
