The five pages presented here are two fragments that seem to be a set of notes and the final page of a communication from Chief Commissioner Nicolson relating to issues that came up from the Royal Commission. There is no name identified on the two pages of notes, dated 4 July 1882. They formed part of a series of reports that were forwarded to the Police Commission as part of the investigation into the removal of Constable Arthur. The conflicting accounts of the Glenrowan seige given bySergeant SteeleandConstable Arthurof the capture of Ned Kelly eventually led to a recommendation by Steele to have Arthur dismissed from the police force.The last page displayed is the final page of the report written by the Chief Commissioner of Policeon the matter, recommending that the matter of Arthurs possible perjury be referred to the Crown Solicitor and that a recommendation be brought forward to have Arthur dismissed.

I think by Steele I saw a dim? figure pass between Steele and then hurried [of the ? office?} as the? pointed [?] back of the house [page148)] the? shooting I heard Steele say throw up your arms and come this way The woman was on Steeles back or left shoulder? when he fired towards the building Page 179 Mr.? says I am perfectly certain he never fired near her she was completely out of the ? office altogether when the shooting took place Page 72 Const. Arthur himself states I could not be certain he Steele fired at her a second time what I meant? was he fired in her direction? I will? not swear he fired at her I mean in her direction Page 92 Const. Healy states he was at a tree about 7 or 8 yards from Const. Arthur & heard Mrs Reardon scream & also heard Steeles voice but not what he said I did not hear Arthur say anything If Arthur says he called to Steele if you shoot at that woman Ill shoot you it is false he could not have made
