The five pages presented here are two fragments that seem to be a set of notes and the final page of a communication from Chief Commissioner Nicolson relating to issues that came up from the Royal Commission. There is no name identified on the two pages of notes, dated 4 July 1882. They formed part of a series of reports that were forwarded to the Police Commission as part of the investigation into the removal of Constable Arthur. The conflicting accounts of the Glenrowan seige given bySergeant SteeleandConstable Arthurof the capture of Ned Kelly eventually led to a recommendation by Steele to have Arthur dismissed from the police force. The last page displayed is the final page of the report written by the Chief Commissioner of Policeon the matter, recommending that the matter of Arthurs possible perjury be referred to the Crown Solicitor and that a recommendation be brought forward to have Arthur dismissed.
