Joaquín Gonzalo y Tarín (Teruel, 1838 – La Granja, Segovia, 1910) was a mining engineer who specialized in microscopic petrography and stratigraphy. He participated in the Commission for the Geological Map of Spain, focusing particularly on the mining district of Huelva, which led to the creation of his most significant work: a physical, geological, and mining overview of the province of Huelva (1886–88). This work is hugely valuable for the study of geography and mining in the province of Huelva in the late 19th century, when mining production there was reaching its peak.
