At the 1996 Atlanta Olympics, it was a commemorative edition of the 100 years of the Modern Age Olympic Games. It was considered that Athens, forerunner of modern games, should host the hundredth edition, however, when voting for the headquarters of 1996, a remarkable event also for Brazilian Canoeing, for many years it was the turn of the best participation in an Olympic final with Sebastian Cuattrin getting the 8th place in K1.
For Canoeing Speed Leonardo Selbach competed in the Men's C1 and secured the 23rd position, while Gustavo Selbach in the K1 Masculino took 28th place.
