Greenhouses of the Nursery Garden of Virtudes

José Marques Loureiro introduced a great number of plant species in Portugal, some of which from the best European establishments in France, Belgium or England, thus transforming the Virtudes garden in a real experimental field for the acclimatization of plants. Many were the object of experiments, such as crossbreeding and environment switching (from the greenhouse to the outside), which gave way to new species.
