Filipino designer Ito Kish's success is based on Kish's eye for the commercial aspect and ability to analyze the market as a business major. But equally important was the artist's continued interest in beauty. Kish's attachment to the things enjoyed in childhood always inspired the artist as an adult. Kish is inspired by everything surrounding the artist: how to weave a basket commonly seen in daily life, the proportion of dining table chairs, and the patterns printed on the artist's mother's dress. Based on Philippine tradition, Ito Kish presents innovative pieces that combine creative styles with various design techniques. An understanding of Filipino culture, creativity and craftsmanship, as well as the uniqueness of the 7,000 islands have always been the source of inspiration. The diversity of Filipino aesthetics is evident through the traditional heritage from a variety of perspectives. The design clearly reveals who the artist is, and where the artist comes from. The Gregorian chair, which will be presented at this exhibition, is an iconic design and piece of art which represents Ito Kish. Decorative pillars of different heights and diameters support the backs of semi-circular rattan sheets. All of the materials used in Gregorian chairs are procured through sustainable materials and production means. The gemma tree, also used as a material, is a fast-growing, hard wood that is cultivated and supplied locally. As such, the success of the products is driving the growth of the community. Now, the chair is not merely a product loved by people all over the world, but also a classic design by Ito Kish.
