Cheongju Craft Biennale

Cheongju Craft Biennale
Cheongju-si, Chungcheongbuk-do, South Korea

The historic city of Cheongju is the birthplace of the Iron Age and the Jikji, the oldest surviving book printed with the world’s first-known, movable metal types. Ever since the first Cheongju Craft Biennale held in 1999, which introduced the world to nearly all fields of craft such as ceramics, woodcraft, textile, and metalcraft, the Biennale has shown both Korean and international craft every two years, attempting to let viewers understand contemporary craft and open up new prospects on craft. It has developed as the world’s best and biggest craft biennale where approximately 3,000 artists from 60 countries participate and an audience of 400,000 visit each event.
