Female character standing in front of the viewer. She wears a skirt and cloak, as well as her face covered except for one eye. The woman is a covered Lima, an emblematic character of the city of Lima who used to dress in a skirt and cloak, covering one eye. Inscription: "Señora. halb capped."
This illuminated lithograph bears the signature of Ignacio Merino, a Peruvian academic artist was active in Lima between 1838 and 1850. In those years, he influenced local costumbrismo, occasionally working in collaboration with Francisco 'Pancho' Fierro, in the context of the development of a "tourist" market for these images.
It belongs to the album "1871 Praetoria" which contains 39 sheets of which 25 are watercolors and 14 are illuminated lithographs. These images are an example of the nineteenth-century production of pictorial costumbrismo in Peru, a repertoire of typical characters -in this case from the city of Lima-, composed without much context, and rather characterized by their work and clothing.
