HellaBlackLindyHop Performance

Following the momentum from the Rhythm Ambassadors I started HellaBlackLindyHop in 2018. I worked with Tena Morales to produce the Houston Jazz Dance Festival, an event that runs in tandem with the International Swing Dance Championships. ISDC is an event where many of the dancers are black people doing social dances that came from Lindy Hop. I saw it as a perfect opportunity to be an ambassador of Lindy Hop within my own culture. HellaBlackLindyHop in its inaugural performance featured dancers in the age range of 19-50 from across the US. We performed for a room full of people who looked like us, which was an experience that left many of us feeling as if we came home to a family reunion we didn’t realize we were missing.
