Horn of Wieliczka Miners

The Saltdiggers’ Horn of Wieliczka Miners is a unique work of art from the times of Renaissance, which symbolises the former wealth of the Cracow Saltworks. It was given to miners in 1534 by a royal clerk, Seweryn Boner, who was the saltworks administrator at the time, who managed the salt production enterprise and at the same time supervised the Cracow Castle. The horn probably once belonged to an aurochs - an animal, which has been extinct for ages. This huge primogenitor of the biggest cattle breeds lived in the forests of Poland until year 1627.
