This book is an illustrated geometrical treatise by Giovanni Scala, an Italian mathematician who worked in Rome and had the support of important patrons in France in the 16th century, including King Henri IV (1589-1610).

The book is based on Scala's lectures in Rome, and predates his later presentation manuscripts and published editions on military engineering. It is believed that the manuscript is that of Scala, or is a student copy.
