Falkenhagen's In The Language of the Flowers captures her artistic struggle and period of personal and artistic growth. Previously believing that all art had to make a statement or be meaningful, she forced herself to look inward for feelings and emotions to express in her work. However, Falkenhagen fell short of her goal as personal symbolism became confused with literal interpretation. The piece is now looked back on as contrived and unresolved.
